Video reviews and recording questions

Customers can add a short video to their review. See what they do, how to set the recording questions and how to remove a video.

Customers can add a short video to the review they leave on your collect page. Some people find it easier to talk than to write, and a video lets them do that.

What customers do

In the Video section of your collect page, customers have two buttons:

  • Record video: on a phone or tablet, this opens the device's own camera app. On a computer, it records right in the page.

  • Upload a video file: this picks a clip that's already on the device.

Videos can be mp4, mov or webm files, up to 60 seconds and 100 MB. When recording in the page, customers see how many seconds are left, and the recording stops at 60 seconds. They can press Stop early, then Record again or Remove video if they want another take.

With a video, writing is optional: customers can write as little as they like, or nothing at all. They still give a star rating, enter their name and tick the consent box.

Recording questions

Above the buttons, customers see “Before you record, think about” and a few questions, so they know what to talk about. Three questions are built in, in every language:

  • Why did you choose us in the first place?

  • What were you most satisfied with?

  • Who would you recommend us to, and why?

To use your own questions:

  1. Open Settings and find Collect page questions > Recording questions.

  2. Press Write my own. The built-in questions appear as a starting point.

  3. Edit or remove them, or press Add question. You can have up to 3 questions of up to 80 characters each.

  4. Press Save at the bottom of the page.

Your questions are translated into your display languages automatically. Where there's no translation, visitors see the question as you wrote it. To go back to the built-in questions, press Use the defaults and save.

If a customer can't record

  • Inside apps such as LINE, Telegram, Instagram or Facebook, the camera is often blocked. The customer can open the page in Safari or Chrome, or use Upload a video file.

  • If the browser asks for the camera and microphone, the customer needs to allow both.

  • A phone's camera app doesn't stop at 60 seconds by itself, and a longer clip is refused. Customers should watch the timer on the camera screen, or trim the clip before uploading it.

  • Most browsers can't play some formats, such as ProRes. Recording with Record video, or picking the clip from the photo library rather than from Files, usually solves it.

Remove a video

You can take a customer's video down at any time. A removed video is deleted from storage and can't be restored.

  1. Open Manage reviews and find the review.

  2. Press the gear icon (Review settings) on its row.

  3. Tick Remove this video and press Save.

Reviews from your collect page can't be given text afterwards. If a review has nothing but the video, delete the review instead; its video is deleted right away.

Location data

Phones often store where a clip was filmed inside the video file. Laudely removes this location data from mp4 and mov videos, the formats phones record in, before the video is uploaded. A webm file is uploaded as it is.

Limits by plan: Free: up to 3 video reviews per space. Once a space has 3, the collect page stops offering video until you remove a video or delete a review that has one. Starter: unlimited.
